Emergency dentist in Hanoi
Call 115 (ambulance) or go to a hospital emergency department now if you have swelling of the face or neck that is spreading, fever with swelling, difficulty breathing, swallowing or opening your mouth, bleeding that won't stop after 20 minutes of firm pressure, or an injury to the face, jaw or head. Note: emergency numbers in Vietnam are answered in Vietnamese. Ask your hotel or a Vietnamese speaker to help.

Some clinics also say they keep room for urgent cases: for example BeDental sees dental emergencies without appointment during working hours, and Picasso Dental Clinic says it keeps emergency slots open every day. Check the profile and call before you go.
What to do now
Toothache
Rinse with warm salt water, use a pain reliever you know you can safely take (follow the pack), and don't put tablets on the gum. A cold compress on the cheek helps with swelling. See a dentist the same or next day; sooner if the pain is severe or there is swelling.
Broken or chipped tooth
Rinse your mouth, keep any pieces, and use a cold compress for swelling. A sharp edge can be covered with sugar-free chewing gum or dental wax until you see a dentist. If the tooth is very painful or you see pink or red in the centre, go today.
Knocked-out adult tooth
Time matters: ideally see a dentist within an hour. Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. If it's dirty, rinse briefly with milk or saline, don't scrub. Put it back in the socket and bite on a cloth if you can; otherwise keep it in milk. Go to a dentist or the national dental hospital immediately.
Lost filling or crown
Usually not urgent if there is no pain. Keep the crown, avoid chewing on that side, and see a dentist within a few days. Don't glue a crown back with household glue.
Swollen gum or face
A swelling can be a dental abscess. See a dentist today. If the swelling spreads, or you have fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to a hospital emergency department.
Practical tips
- Call ahead. Even clinics that are open may be fully booked; ask whether they can see you today.
- Language. If you don't speak Vietnamese, ask your hotel to call, or choose an English-speaking clinic.
- Insurance. If you have travel insurance, check whether you must call their assistance line first, and keep every invoice. See Dental insurance in Hanoi.
- Records. Ask for a short treatment note and your X-rays, especially if you're travelling on.
